LEED® Certification
SGS Landscape Consultants, LLCTM steps up to be in the LEED®
We at SGS Landscape Consultants, LLC strive to keep up with the latest landscaping technology and trends so that we can more positively impact our environment. With that goal in mind, we are in the process of becoming LEEDS certified. This is just one more way we can be of service to our clients and the communities they serve.
What is LEED®?
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings used by Federal agencies and state and local governments nationwide.
In 2006, The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) put a challenge to the building industry to earn LEED certification for 100,000 commercial buildings and 1 million homes by 2010. LEEDS certification represents the level at which the building industry must adopt green building practices in order to do its part in stabilizing greenhouse emissions.
What is Project Certification?
LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project meets the highest green building and performance measures. All certified projects receive a LEED plaque, which is the nationally recognized symbol demonstrating that a building is environmentally responsible, profitable and a healthy place to live and work.
The environmental and financial benefits to earning LEED project certification
are:
- Lower operating costs and increased asset value.
- Reduce waste to landfills.
- Conserve water and energy.
- Healthier and safer environment for occupants.
- Reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
- Qualify for tax rebates, zoning allowances and other incentives in hundreds of cities.
- Demonstrate an owner's commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
What is a Green Building?
Every year, buildings are responsible for 39% of U.S. CO2 emissions, use 71% of the nation’s electricity, and account for 70% of all landfill waste. Green buildings are an immediate and measurable part of the solution, using less energy, water, and natural resources; creating less waste; and providing more comfort for their occupants. Ultimately, they can significantly reduce greenhouse emissions and energy dependence while improving the health and productivity of their occupants.
What is LEED Professional Accreditation?
LEED Professional Accreditation distinguishes building professionals with the knowledge and skills to successfully steward the LEED certification process. LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System.
