Hi Partners-
As 2009 has come and gone, reflections are always in order. In a way 2009 was expected, based on events of the earlier years of this closing decade. We were warned in ways through the media, papers, and street talk that our fun ride was coming to a screeching halt. They were right.
Looking back on 2009, I realize how I used to think about things; it was about how much “stuff” we had. The biggest, the newest, the top of the line, etc. Funny thing is, what you DO NOT have amounts to so much more. So how are we satisfied with that kind of thinking?
My reflections of 2009 have guided me to a place of appreciation, where the best thing I can do is feel rich, and step back and count all of the many blessings that I have – the blessings that money cannot buy.
I think there may be a silver lining to this economic and political mess we have created as a nation. It is making us see things in a more realistic light; that it is not important to have everything you want, but more importantly to appreciate everything you have.
I look forward to 2010, but for different reasons that to be the biggest landscape or maintenance company. For awhile that looked like a noble and reasonable goal; but now, looking at the state of our construction industry – it almost seems childish.
So sitting and reflecting on 2009, I have finally come to realize what is important and what is not. What is important is your family and friends. Taking care of your wife, when the awful word breast cancer has coming knocking at her door. The celebration of the birth of a grandchild and watching him grow. Watching your children grow up in front of your eyes. Remembering those who have come before us, and now gone from this earth, and the things they taught us that we share with the next generation.
And then there are all the wonderful people I work with day in and day out at Jordans. Without these people, I would be in the land of the lost. They work so hard and are so dedicated to our cause and to you, our clients.
Finally, there is my wife. As I reflect on 2009 and more recent events, she never ceases to amaze me. After 34 years of marriage, I still do not know what I did to be so lucky to have her as my life partner. Sometimes, the things that are most precious to us are right under our noses, and we can not see it.
2010 is going to be a great year. My change in appreciation will be for things I have and not what I thought I wanted. In 2010 I am going to learn form the lessons I hope we all have discovered—the best things in life are definitely not the things you can build or buy; and best of all they are free!
Here is to a great 2010 from your partners at The Jordans Group—
God Bless- you and yours-
